Terms of use
Last updated 19 August 2026
The short version. FORGE is licensed to you, not sold. Use it on your own machines, for anything you like, including commercial work. Do not redistribute it, resell it or pick the licensing apart. What you make with it is yours. It comes with no warranty, and because it can run commands on your computer, you are responsible for what you tell it to do.
The licence
You may install and use FORGE on computers you own or control, personally or commercially. You may not copy, redistribute, sell, sublicense, rent or host it; reverse engineer or decompile it; remove notices of ownership; or work around the account and entitlement checks. The full text ships with the app as LICENSE.
Versions 2.0.0 to 2.1.1 were published under Apache-2.0. That grant stands for those versions and is not withdrawn — later versions are covered by the terms here.
Free, and not free
Chat, models, the runtime, the library, agent tools, research, Ingots and the OpenAI-compatible API are free and need no account.
ForgeWorks, the image and video studio, requires a free FORGE account signed in with Google. If that ever becomes a paid feature, existing users will be told before it changes, not after.
What you make is yours
We claim nothing over your prompts, your files, your conversations, or the text, images and video you generate. We could not claim them if we wanted to: they never leave your machine.
What the agent can do, and whose fault that is
FORGE is a harness, not a chat window. With your permission it edits files, runs shell commands, controls a browser and can be granted control of your desktop and administrative commands.
Every one of those is behind a permission you grant, and the riskiest are off until you type I UNDERSTAND. That is the boundary: once granted, you are responsible for what the agent does on your machine. Language models make mistakes. Keep backups, use the workspace switch, and do not grant desktop or admin control to a task you would not supervise.
Other people's software and models
FORGE downloads and runs software we did not write — llama.cpp, ComfyUI — and model weights published by others. Each carries its own licence and its own terms, which apply to you when you use them and which we cannot grant on their behalf. Model licences in particular vary: some forbid commercial use. Checking is yours to do, and FORGE links to every model's own page for that reason.
Acceptable use
Do not use FORGE to break the law, to attack systems you do not own, or to produce material that is illegal where you are. We cannot see what you do — which is the point of local software — so this is a rule, not a mechanism.
No warranty
FORGE is provided as is, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any damages arising from using it, including lost data, lost profit or business interruption.
Some jurisdictions do not allow those exclusions, in which case they apply only as far as the law permits, and nothing here limits liability for death, personal injury or fraud.
Ending it
You can stop using FORGE whenever you like — uninstall it, and your models, sessions and settings remain ordinary files you own. This licence ends automatically if you breach it, and we may suspend an account that is abusing the service; your local data is unaffected either way.
Changes
These terms may change. Material changes will be dated here and mentioned in the release notes.
